“They Both Die At The End” Book Covers

In the course  Type & Design, I was challenged to redesign a book cover using only typography, following 2 approaches: expressive typography and neutral typography. At that time, I was reading the Young Adult novel “They Both Die At The End” by Adam Silvera, and I decided to explore typography to express the notion of time, sadness, and the imminent fate of the characters.



Expressive Version

In this expressive version, I want to bring the feeling of melancholy, and vanishing. Therefore, the text was customised to be blurry, fade into view which correlates with the characters fading out of existence.


Neutral Version

This version deals with the concept of ‘running out of time’.  Therefore, I employ the clock imagery and the text are all spiraling downwards.
